Press! Fig magazine

Before I go off to paint today I find my self drifting in wonder at the soft autumn light on the curling bark of the large birch tree which makes me totally forget my words that I planned to write you. Something about the school bus emptying my house I think. I am extremely grateful for all the art opportunities I have now and coming as well as some tremendous press I got. Upcoming is , County Press of Newtown Square on my show of brand new painting series at Newtown Square Library all this month. I am one of the featured artists in the new issue of Fig Magazine of West Chester see the Art Issue here Fig Magazine West Chester Art Issue Sept 2012. Also, I will be featured in and article by Carol Hart Metzker in the Women's Journal regarding a waterlily painting I donated for a worthy cause-ending child slavery. Wonderful blessings all.

Chester County Press

Another nice surprise. I got quoted in this weeks issue of Chester County Press( May 2nd, 2012) during an interview at Art On The Square In Kennett Square last week.

"I had heard about what was going on in this town from fellow artists," said Monique Kendikian-Sarkessian, an artist from Philadelphia, who sold several of her paintings at the festival. "The people I am meeting are giving my work great feedback. I'm receiving affirmation from people I do not know. That's what you want and need as an artist. When you come to a place where art is appreciated, you as an artist have a tendency to want to return there." Very nice, thank you, Richard Gaw!
Lots of ink this week!

Good press

As a big surprise this week I was mentioned in an article published in Chester County Life. The article spotlights the upcoming Art Jazz Springfest On The Mainline show . It is a lively 3 page spread about the show and several of the artists and I am described by the author as, "Monique Kendikian-Sarkessian, a prolific impressionist painter of landscapes and still life." The whole article appears on pages 38-40 of the upcoming May/June 2012 issues of Chester County Life magazine.

Today's encouragement

An encouragement for today came reading Robert Genn's newsletter,The Painter's Keys.

"Artists get better by sharpening their skills or by acquiring new ones; they get better by learning to work, and by learning from their work." (David Bayles and Ted Orland). My prolific yet varied array of artwork is not for naught. I am learning through every stroke. Everything I touch my brush to is not necessarily an automatic masterpiece but a necessary step towards the next step and that is what makes the work significant.

Me painting at Longwood Gardens photo by Richard Nowitz of National Geographic

Tuesday, November 20, 2012

I love this photo! It was taken by renowned photographer, Richard Nowitz of National Geographic, as I was painting the water lilies at Longwood Gardens a few weeks ago.  I was working on my plein air painitng, Last Glimpse. I have my Wolverine style paintbrush loaded hand on my left. and a customary paint smudge on my right cheek. Very typical of me!

Passion Quote for the day

Monday, December 3, 2012

Passion is universal humanity. Without it religion, history, romance and art would be useless. (Honore de Balzac)

Finding My Voice- another lesson

From Keith Bond's newsletter:

quote by C.S. Lewis:

“Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original. Whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring two pence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.”

New Year New Paintings

Tuesday, January 1, 2013

I am working on a number of series now the first one is of mini 5" square gallery wrapped canvases. The subject is shoes. I think shoes have so much personality and character even without someone in them. I love what happens when I arrange the shoes as a still life. The relationship between the two shoes and the  shadows around them are very engaging. Marilyn Monroe said, "Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world". And she would know wouldn't she? I know I'm having fun!
